I have now attended two hustings events in Hemel Hempstead as your Labour candidate for Parliament and all I have heard from the standing MP Mike Penning is him playing up his army background and serving his country.
He’s very light on detail about real issues that matter to people and about serving Hemel, where three schools have closed and the police station and the court have been downgraded. Let alone big concerns such as rising prices and the housing crisis.
Which is where I come in.
I’ve worked in housing in and around the town for 15 years. I see young people who can’t get on the housing ladder and are forced into paying high rents.
I’m Hemel born and bred, a working mum who has been a single parent and a carer for elderly parents.
It has given me great insight into what REAL ordinary working people’s lives are really about – not the ordinary working people the Tories patronise from their Westminster bubble.
I’m standing because I want to help change things for the better.
To help young people get a proper start in life without big debts.
To stop cuts that are ruining people’s lives.
To fight FOR the NHS and AGAINST a dementia tax on the elderly.
You may have voted Conservative in the past but ask yourself whether your life and our town and surrounding villages are really any better for 12 years of a local Tory MP and seven years of a Tory government.
One thing’s for sure. It will only get worse if they are elected on June 8th.
Vote Labour. Vote Mandi Tattershall.
