The future of bus services across Hemel Hempstead

The Labour group has been campaigning for an improvement in the clarity of the future of the old town centre since the upgrade in the facilities of the old town which finally has been completed by Dacorum Borough Council.

One of the problems with access to the town centre is the total cessation of all bus services through and serving the Old Town.

Councillor Williams the Conservative leader of Dacorum Council has been keen in the past to promote public transport by the installation of a bus stop which has not had any services that actually stop there or service the shops and business as well as the local community.

Historically the Park and Ride Service was discontinued in 2007 and since then there has been a deterioration both in the Public Transport serving the Old Town but also in making the Car Park in the Gadebridge Park a realistic option for visitors and residents to use.

It is matter of record that since the Conservative County Council has cut public transport subsidies and specifically the bus services that Dacorum Borough Council has not made any attempt to support local bus services.

Dacorum Borough Council has not actively supported the retention of local bus services both in terms of any local subsidy or by representing the interests the of the local residents by lobbying the County Council for the retention of services and subsidies.

This is very much in keeping with the complete lack of support for the retention of bus services across the town and borough.

The only bus service the Conservatives appear to be proud of is the ML1 that runs from the Railway Station to the Industrial Estate Monday to Friday during working hours only.

Labour is actively campaigning to explore options with the aim of improving public transport links in a meaningful way across the town both for business m retail and leisure use for all residents and visitors.

Your Local Labour Action Team are keen to hear from you about the needs and interests of all the residents and other community stake holders in the old town in order to lobby for a proper and practical improvement in the bus and public transport services.
